Donation to Smith Center Recreation Commission

Jun 03, 2024

Midway Co-op Association in conjunction with CoBank donated a total of $10,000.00 to the Smith Center Recreation Commission.  The funds will be used to assist in renovating the old bowling alley into a Youth Training Complex.  CoBank is a regional cooperative that matches dollar-for-dollar cash donations from its local cooperative members like Midway Co-op through their annual Sharing Success Program. The donations are designed to support rural America by strengthening the communities they serve.

This facility will be available to coaches and athletes year-round.  It will be setup for seasonal sports and special events (camps, hosted events, etc.).  The facility will have batting cages, wrestling mats, gymnastic equipment, as well as equipment to train youth golf. The facility will be available for all Smith County area youth, including college athletes. Adult supervision will be required, and the facility will be available for booking time slots.

Recreation Commission Director Billy Thayer accepted the check saying, “We are thankful for the generous donation of Midway Co-op and their commitment to local youth. This donation will be a huge step forward in completing the facility, ensuring they will have the necessary equipment to advance their skill and ability.”
“We are proud to support The Youth Training Center.  Midway Coop continues to make improving our local communities a priority.  We use every opportunity to match funds from our regional cooperatives to double our impact locally.”
